I want to thank those members who have been strong and determined advocates for the Archives Project.

At our October meeting a Long Range plan was developed for BAP.

The goals include:

            GOALS 2004 - 2007

  1. Provide funding for continuation of the Beverly Archives Project
  2. Provide guidelines for the participating organizations.
  3. Outreach for community visibility.
  4. Enhance WEBSITE.
  5. Establish permanent home for Beverly Archives Project and Collections.

We meet the first Thursday of each month and have seen the goals and strategies take shape.

1.      Two grants applications were submitted. One to the Essex National Heritage Commission Partnership Grant Program for storage materials and one to the Massachusetts Historical /Records Advisory Board for financial assistance to provide training to our member organizations about the preservation, cataloging and storage of their archives that have already been surveyed. To hire an archivist to plan 2 city wide educational workshops, provide suggestions for storage and finally a wrap-up round table discussion to summarize the project.

2.      The website has been revisited and changed. All the committee meeting minutes are now posted, the participating institutions are listed with a general description of their archival holdings.

The large exhibit developed as a result of our surveyed organizations has been displayed during the year at the Beverly Public Library and the Beverly Senior Center. To preserve this exhibit in another form, arrangements were made with the Northeast Massachusetts Regional Library center (NMRLS) in Danvers to have all the boards scanned for BAP’s Archives. This past weekend June 4th ARTFEST the exhibit was on display for the community.

As an educational outing the committee traveled to Andover for a tour of the NDCC Northeast Document Conservation Center. The tour provided valuable knowledge to the participants on the preservation of paper materials.

Our ultimate goal in the future is a permanent home for BAP. And a part-time city archivist to identify the many past and present civic organizations that should be part of the BAP.

An updated and revised brochure has been created by Carol Mori.

An important goal is to maintain visibility within the community and also to investigate potential partnerships and private funding to continue the mission and activities of BAP.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the committee as a whole for all the support they have provided me with during my tenure. I have thoroughly enjoyed chairing the committee and will continue to be a major part of the group.
