 Beverly Archive Project  Minutes

April 10,  2008

The Beverly Archives Project (BAP) held its regular meeting at 7 PM at the Beverly Public Library,  chaired by  John Thomson.

Present were:

Polly  Armstrong  -  Spar & Spindle G.S. Council Museum

John  Thomson – First  Baptist  Church

Elaine  Israelsohn -  Temple  B'nai  Abraham

Thad  Outerbridge -  St. Peter’s  Episcopal  Church

Charles Wainwright – First  Parish Church

Guest  -  Fran  MacDonald,  City  Clerk  of  Beverly

1.     Our meeting with Fran MacDonald was very informative.

By law, records of  births, marriages and deaths  must be kept at City Hall.

The office is not sufficiently staffed.

There is one volunteer, Dan Driscoll, who does genealogy.

The budget has been cut from  $10,000 to $5,000.

There is a need to catalogue the archives kept in the basement.

The ensuing discussion raised the question of a possibility of pursuing a grant,

with BAP, to do an inventory.

Also discussed, was the possibility of  BevCam doing a program about the archives

           at  City  Hall.

2.     The March minutes were approved.

3.     Treasurer’s  Report -   The balance is $1,249.87 .

4.     BAP  members should get their Panels ready for display at the May 16th Archives Alive meeting.

5.    John will cut a check for the renewal of our Website.

6.    John will talk to Mayor Scanlon about the possibility of converting the Briscoe

School to house all municipal offices,  including proper storage of the archives.

7.   It was suggested that we take a tour of  the Massachusetts Archives  located  in Boston.

8.   We will resume meeting on the first Thursday of the month.  We will meet  on

      May 1st  and  June 5th .

Respectfully Submitted,       Elaine G. Israelsohn
