Beverly Archive Project Minutes October 2, 2008 The Beverly Archives Project (BAP) held its regular meeting at 7 PM at the Beverly Public Library, chaired by John Thomson. Present were:
1. The September 4th Minutes were approved. 2. Treasurer’s Report - Our present balance is $1013.60 . Dues invoices for 2008 – 09 were handed out. 3. Beverly City Hall Archives – Dan Driscoll who, after retiring twelve years ago, became a volunteer at the City Clerk’s office. He talked about his work researching Beverly birth, marriage and death records. Beverly records go back to 1640. He has done about 6,000 searches and has a log of about 2,000 people. This led to several questions – “What and how can we help to organize the city records that are in the basement ? “ We have the interest and knowledge to do something for the city. What did Kobi do when assessing what was in the basement ? Can we get a copy of the report ? Can we apply for a grant ? Massachusetts Historical Society, for example ? 4. Meeting Revision – Elizabeth Thompson, who was going to talk to us about digitizing & using “Fliker” to digitize photography, cannot come to our November 6th meeting. She is taking a course and may be available after the New Year. Instead, Charlie Wainwright will share his knowledge about the solution to the high price of “Past Perfect”, and other insights for using computers for archival purposes. 5. Our next meeting will be on Thursday, November 6th.
Respectfully Submitted, Elaine G. Israelsohn |
