 Beverly Archive Project  Minutes

April 2, 2009

The Beverly Archives Project (BAP) held its regular meeting at 7 PM at the Beverly Public Library,  chaired by  John Thomson.

Present were:

Margaret  Alfonso

Barbara  Broudo – Endicott College
Nancy Coffey

Elaine  Israelsohn -  Temple  B'nai  Abraham

Carol  Mori  -  Dane Street  Church

Thad  Outerbridge –  St. Peter’s  Episcopal  Church

John  Thomson – First  Baptist  Church

Guest:  Todd  Wemmer  – Associate Professor of Communication, Endicott College

1.  Oral  History

Professor  Wemmer  talked about Video and Audio techniqes to record oral history.  For example, voice mail can be put on your computer, which will record your conversation.  A phone number can be put on a website with a note to “call and tell your story”.

Another example is to send someone with a recorder to get the oral history.  There are inexpensive recorders available that will do the job.  A USB  cable can be plugged right into the computer.

It was felt that BAP could try to get a grant to pay for equipment.

2.  Treasurer’s  Report

In March, there was a dues payment of $25 and expenditure of  $301.04 for archival supplies to be used for the Beverly City Hall project.

The balance at the end of March was  $997.56.

It was agreed that we would renew our website which would  expire on April 30th.

3.  The March Minutes were approved as written.

4.  Beverly  City Hall Archives

Margaret and John have spent 30 hours identifying what was actually in mislabeled boxes, putting the papers in folders and properly labeling the boxes.  Friday mornings are a good time to join John & Margaret to work with them on the city archives.

5.  Our next meeting will be on Thursday,  May 7th.

Respectfully  submitted:        Elaine G. Israelsohn
