The First Parish Church was organized in Beverly in 1667 by a group who petitioned the Salem Church for leave to establish their own parish on the "Bass River Side".  There has been an active congregation ever since. Until 1718, the Church and the Town government were one and the same.

First Parish is in possession of a large indexed collection of historical archives including tax records, membership lists, pew rentals, Parish meetings, Orders of Service, Newsletters,  building records, and other Church business from its beginning.  We also have extensive records of our Sunday School, founded in 1810 and considered the oldest continuously operating Sunday School in New England.

First Parish Church maintains a web site dedicated to its history and its archives at http://history.firstparishbeverly.org
