The First Parish Church was organized in Beverly in
1667 by a group who petitioned the Salem Church for leave to establish their own
parish on the "Bass River Side". There has been an active congregation
ever since. First Parish is in possession of a large collection of
historical archives including such things as tax estimates, membership lists,
and records of Church business from its beginning. We also have extensive
records of our Sunday School, founded in 1810 and considered the oldest
continuously operating Sunday School in the country.
